Police say the violence started around 2:15 p.m. when officers on another call heard gunshots from the 1500 block of Liberty Street, near a city park in East Fort Worth. Two people were killed Monday afternoon at a Forth Worth city park.
When they arrived, they found a teenage girl, later identified as 17-year-old Cyanna Boone, lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the shooting happened after a fight involving 15 to 20 people who had gathered at the park shortly before the gunfire. Witnesses described chaos as the crowd scattered, and investigators are now working to determine what sparked the confrontation.
About five minutes later, around 2:20 p.m., officers responded to a second shooting less than a mile away in the 1700 block of Handley Drive. They found a man inside a parked vehicle with a gunshot wound. The victim, listed in 911 logs as a 19-year-oldman, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators believe the two shootings are connected, but have not yet shared the exact details.
Victims and Community Impact
The death of Cyanna Boone, a high school senior, has deeply affected the Stop Six community. Family members told local reporters that Boone was in 12th grade and getting ready to graduate. Her great-great aunt said the family learned about the shooting when Boone’s mother called in a panic after hearing her daughter had been shot.
Police have not yet released the name of the second victim, but confirmed he was a young adult man. Another person who was in the same vehicle ran away but was later found in a nearby home and questioned by investigators.
The shootings happened during a hard time for Boone’s family, who told reporters they were already mourning another recent loss. This added tragedy has led residents to call for more safety measures and conflict-resolution resources in the neighborhood.
Police Investigation
Fort Worth police say no arrests have been made and that detectives are still seeking witnesses and evidence. Officers placed many evidence markers in the park and searched the area for surveillance footage and more information.
Authorities have not shared details about possible suspects or motives but confirmed that the two shootings are linked and started from the same disturbance at the park.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Fort Worth Police Department’s homicide unit.
