The Southbound Dallas North Tollway Ramp to I-635 was Closed after an Accident

The southbound Dallas North Tollway ramp to I-635 was closed after an accident this morning. The accident closed two southbound lanes and the ramp from the tollway to westbound Interstate 635.

An early Monday morning crash on the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) caused major delays for thousands of North Texas drivers.

The North Texas Tollway Authority said the crash happened during the busy morning commute, leading to a long traffic backup that stretched north past Keller Springs Road in Addison.

The crash, reported just after sunrise, blocked the main ramp that connects southbound DNT traffic to I-635, one of Dallas’s busiest interchanges. With the ramp closed and two main lanes shut down, drivers faced a major bottleneck, and traffic slowed to a crawl for miles.

The Texas Department of Transportation confirmed that congestion quickly built up, with delays getting worse as more commuters joined the road.

Authorities have not yet shared what caused the crash or how many vehicles were involved. As of the latest update, it is also unclear if anyone was hurt.

Emergency crews and tollway staff are at the scene, clearing damaged vehicles and checking the road. The NTTA is asking drivers to be careful, expect delays, and use alternate routes while the lanes are closed.

The Dallas North Tollway is a major artery for commuters traveling from Collin and Denton counties into the heart of Dallas, and even minor disruptions can ripple across the region’s traffic network.

Monday’s closure, however, was far from minor. With the ramp to I‑635 blocked, drivers heading toward the interchange were forced to remain on the tollway or divert onto surface streets, creating additional congestion on nearby roads.

By 7:30 a.m., traffic cameras showed long lines of cars moving slowly, with brake lights visible far down the road. The backup reached well past the crash site, affecting drivers as far north as Addison.

Causing delays for people trying to merge onto the tollway from side roads. Some commuters reported delays of 20 to 40 minutes, depending on where they started.

The NTTA has not said when the lanes will fully reopen, only that crews are working as quickly as possible to clear the scene. The agency also reminded drivers to watch for sudden stops and lane changes, especially in busy areas like the DNT and I-635 interchange.

This crash happened as North Texas traffic continues to grow, with more people moving to the area and more businesses opening. The Dallas North Tollway has become even busier as new developments spread north.

While construction projects are underway to help with traffic, incidents like Monday’s show how hard it is to keep traffic moving on these busy roads.

For now, officials suggest that commuters check traffic updates, use navigation apps for detours, and plan for extra travel time during rush hour. As the investigation continues, more details about the crash and the reopening of the lanes are expected.
